This study aimed to determine the relationship between family interaction and self-esteem in 28 second-grade primary school students (mean age = 8 years) from the Liceo Trujillo Educational Institution, Peru. A quantitative, cross-sectional correlational design was used, employing two validated instruments: the Family Interaction Inventory for Children (IIF-N; α = 0.89) and the Children’s Self-Esteem Scale (EAI; α = 0.87). The results revealed a strong, positive, statistically significant correlation between the variables (r = 0.763, p < .05). Mean scores were as follows: family interaction (M = 72.96, SD = 11.15) and self-esteem (M = 69.73, SD = 11.41). Additionally, 45% of the students showed moderate and 35% high levels of family interaction, while 40% showed moderate and 45% high levels of self-esteem. The findings indicate that positive family dynamics are key predictors of higher self-esteem in childhood.
